A Wholistic Approach to Learning
When I work with students, I keep in mind that learning is greatly enhanced when we look at the whole student ~ both their sensory learning strengths and their feelings and life experiences.
When students begin using new learning strategies that start to engage different sensory pathways, they can take in and process new material more easily. Together, we discover strategies that are best suited to their strengths as their cognitive skills grow and develop over time (read more).
It is important to work with students with both empathy and sensitivity, since students' lives and feelings also impact learning ~ cognitive processing speed, attention, and memory can all be influenced by how we are feeling in the moment. Also, our sense of self-esteem and confidence in our abilities can be further affected by our differences in learning and attention (read more).
